At the young age of 17, TJ committed to serving his country and joined the Army National Guard. Over the course of nine years, he demonstrated commendable service, including a deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II, where he skillfully operated recovery vehicles.
After his honorable discharge, TJ transitioned his discipline and focus to journalism. As an Investigative Reporter, he earned multiple accolades from the Nebraska Press Association. He expanded his horizons as a corporate journalist, traveling across the United States to create newsletters for prominent railroad companies, thereby enriching his understanding of diverse industries and communities.
Further showcasing his commitment to growth and excellence, TJ embarked on a rigorous five-year apprenticeship with the Steamfitter's Local Union 464. He successfully earned his Journeyman Steamfitter's license from the City of Omaha, mastering complex skills in the layout, troubleshooting and welding of piping systems for large-scale heating and cooling projects.
Beyond his professional endeavors, TJ has also thrived in the music industry. He was the lead singer and guitarist for a band that toured regionally, captivating audiences with their performances. Currently, he continues to express his artistic talents as a singer-songwriter, crafting songs that reflect his diverse experiences.
